Who Is Eligible For Teen Court?

Youth who are under the age of 18 or who are currently enrolled full time in middle school or high school may have the option of Teen Court. Teen Court is available for most Class C misdemeanors such as "minor in possession" and "theft less than $50."

Participation in Teen Court is voluntary and at the discretion of the court of origin's presiding judge. Before enrolling, teens must appear before the judge in the court of origin with a parent or guardian, enter a plea of guilty or no contest, and request participation in Teen Court. A defendant may only appear in Teen Court once within a two-year period. A defendant may choose at any time to pay the fine(s) established for the charged offense(s).

You can qualify for Teen Court if all of the following are true:
  • You plead guilty or no contest.
  • It is a Class C misdemeanor such as "minor in possession" or "theft under $50," and you have not gone to Teen Court for the same offense in the last two years.
  • You are under the age of 18 or are currently enrolled full time in middle school or high school.
